Set pip’s --proxy Option in PyCharm’s Package Installer
Pass pip’s proxy option through PyCharm’s package interface and compare failures using the exact interpreter selected for the project.
In PyCharm’s Python Packages tool window, right-click the chosen package and select Install with Options. For an ordinary HTTP proxy, the pip option can be the following. The HTTP proxy list provides candidate endpoints for a public package-index route:
--proxy http://proxy.example:8080
The interpreter settings’ Available Packages dialog also exposes an Options field. Choose the intended interpreter first: package installation belongs to that environment.
When comparing the GUI with a terminal, use the same Python executable explicitly. A POSIX virtual environment might use:
/path/to/project/.venv/bin/python -m pip install --proxy http://proxy.example:8080 package-name
Replace the executable path and package with the project’s actual values. A bare pip or another activated terminal can refer to a different environment, with different configuration and trust inputs.
For an authenticated proxy, use pip’s supported credential-bearing URL with reserved account characters encoded correctly. A package repository account is separate.
PyCharm also supports Conda package management for Conda interpreters. Identify which manager performed the failed operation before supplying pip-only options. An IDE connection check, a package index listing and the later artifact download exercise different requests.
