Eclipse Proxy Settings: Native vs. Manual and PAC Rules
Choose Eclipse’s Native or Manual network provider deliberately, and preserve destination rules when a network publishes a PAC script.
Open Preferences → General → Network Connections and select the intended Active Provider before editing the table:
| Provider | Policy source |
|---|---|
| Direct | No proxy |
| Manual | Entries and bypasses configured in Eclipse |
| Native, where available | Settings discovered from the operating system |
Native is the starting point for OS-managed policy, but availability and discovery depend on the platform. A PAC working in one browser does not establish Eclipse received it.
For an administrator-provided fixed route, Manual can be appropriate. Edit the relevant protocol's host/port, review selected entries and define bypasses. Copying one endpoint from PAC is insufficient when the script says:
if (dnsDomainIs(host, ".internal.example"))
return "DIRECT";
return "PROXY proxy.example:8080";
The address preserves only the proxy branch. It drops the internal DIRECT rule, and another script may include more destinations or ordered fallbacks. If Native integration is unsuitable, obtain an approved fixed endpoint with required bypass rules rather than silently replacing the policy.
Check the operation that failed—an update site, Marketplace or particular plug-in. An external build tool or separate HTTP stack can have its own interface. If the request reaches the proxy and is challenged, inspect credentials/method; if it never reaches it, revisit provider, protocol selection and bypass first.
