For Squid deployments using basic_db_auth, the database location belongs in the helper's DBI data-source name. The Squid 7 helper source exposes a --dsn option; the MySQL driver accepts host and port fields:

--dsn "DBI:mysql:database=squid;host=db.example.net;port=3306"

This is an argument fragment for the existing helper invocation, not a standalone command. Add it to the auth_param basic program command that already launches the installed helper. The executable's path depends on the Squid package.

Keep the helper's other configuration in view. Its --user and --password values open the database connection. Its table, username-column, password-column and password-format options describe the proxy-account records stored there. Changing the database host does not change that schema or password format.

The helper passes the DSN and database credentials to DBI->connect. The corresponding Perl DBI driver must therefore be available in the helper's environment, and the database must accept the connection from the proxy host.

Using the exposed option keeps the database address in deployment configuration. There is no need to replace the default DSN literal inside the helper's Perl source.
