Edge’s ProxySettings Policy Overrides Startup Flags
Inspect the managed ProxySettings policy when Microsoft Edge ignores proxy command-line options, and express direct or system mode in that policy.
If Microsoft Edge ignores a proxy command-line option, inspect whether the managed ProxySettings policy is active. Microsoft documents that enabling this policy makes Edge ignore proxy-related command-line options.
For a managed configuration whose intended route is direct, the policy dictionary is:
{"ProxyMode": "direct"}Apply the approved value through the environment’s normal Edge policy management. In direct mode, the remaining proxy fields are ignored. To use the operating system’s proxy selection instead, ProxyMode is system.
ProxySettings also overrides the individual ProxyMode, ProxyPacUrl, ProxyServer and ProxyBypassList policies. Review the effective combined setting rather than changing one subordinate field and assuming it wins.
Closing an old browser process can matter when examining launch arguments, but it cannot make those arguments outrank an active mandatory policy. Establish the intended management configuration before attributing the result to a stale window.
