httplib2 accepts an explicit HTTP proxy through ProxyInfo. With httplib2 and its supported SOCKS dependency available:

import httplib2
import socks

proxy = httplib2.ProxyInfo(
    proxy_type=socks.PROXY_TYPE_HTTP,
    proxy_host="proxy.example.net",
    proxy_port=8080,
)
client = httplib2.Http(proxy_info=proxy, timeout=15)
response, content = client.request("https://example.com/", "GET")

Replace the proxy endpoint. The HTTP proxy list offers public candidates for the ProxyInfo host and port. The HTTP type describes the listener; it can carry the HTTPS destination through the supported tunnel path.

Credentials and failures

ProxyInfo provides proxy credential fields for methods supported by the service and implementation. Website authentication has its own configuration. A proxy challenge and a destination 401 refer to different accounts.

Check the advertised scheme against the installed client's support rather than inferring compatibility from a familiar authentication label.

Keep certificate verification enabled. Identify whether failure occurred while reaching the proxy, establishing the tunnel, or verifying the destination. A successful import shows package availability, while the client's effective route and bypass settings determine how the request proceeds.
