Evolution has its own network proxy profiles. In its Network Preferences, select the intended method and enter the SOCKS host and port in the SOCKS fields. HTTP and HTTPS entries describe other proxy routes.

The basic view edits the built-in profile used by new accounts by default. Advanced Proxy Preferences exposes additional profiles and lets you associate them with particular network accounts. Check that association when one account behaves differently from another.

Evolution’s mail networking passes the account’s proxy resolver into its socket client. The setting is therefore relevant to mail connections, rather than merely to images fetched over HTTP.

Keep the IMAP and SMTP server addresses, ports and TLS modes configured as mail-service settings. Their names do not become the SOCKS listener’s address. The intermediary must permit connections to the actual mail-service ports. For public mail services where public intermediaries are permitted, the SOCKS proxy list supplies address candidates; match Evolution’s supported SOCKS version and verify access to the actual mail host and port.
