If a proxy password works until Eclipse restarts, investigate where the credential is being saved. Changing the proxy port is unlikely to repair storage.

First verify the active provider and the intended entry under Network Connections. Then inspect General → Security → Secure Storage. Its Contents tab shows the storage location and whether entries exist; encrypted values remain masked. Check that this location is writable and belongs to the installation and user profile you are actually using.

Secure Storage has a master-password layer separate from the proxy account. Recovering that password requires recovery questions configured beforehand. The recovery action is not a routine step for saving every proxy password, and repeatedly changing and recovering it is not a general authentication fix.

Be careful with the storage's Delete action: it removes all contents, which may include credentials used by other Eclipse components. Resolve access to the existing store before considering a reset, and plan to re-enter affected secrets if a reset is necessary.

A password retained across restarts but rejected by the proxy is a different fault. Return to the selected protocol, account format and authentication method. Putting the same password in plaintext JVM options merely changes its exposure; it does not identify which layer failed.
