func dialViaSOCKS(ctx context.Context, destination string) (net.Conn, error) {
    dialer, err := proxy.SOCKS5(
        "tcp",
        "127.0.0.1:1080",
        nil,
        &net.Dialer{Timeout: 5 * time.Second},
    )
    if err != nil {
        return nil, err
    }
    contextDialer, ok := dialer.(proxy.ContextDialer)
    if !ok {
        return nil, errors.New("SOCKS dialer lacks context support")
    }
    return contextDialer.DialContext(ctx, "tcp", destination)
}

Within an existing Go networking package, use context, errors, net, time and x/net/proxy imports. The nil argument selects no SOCKS credentials. For a public destination on a permitted public-proxy route, the SOCKS5 proxy list offers candidates for the dialer's endpoint.

The exported proxy.ContextDialer assertion makes unsupported implementations fail explicitly. Check the deployed dependency rather than naming an internal dialer type or starting a blocking goroutine the caller cannot manage.

The context governs connection establishment. Once a net.Conn is returned, apply appropriate read/write or higher-level request deadlines. A base dialer's connection timeout and an application's total budget are different limits.

For an HTTP transport integration, retain its normal TLS and HTTP behavior. The returned context-aware SOCKS stream is the transport handoff, not a response or a lifetime policy for all later bytes.
