On the intended WSUS server, obtain a current configuration, edit its proxy fields and save the copy:

$server = Get-WsusServer
$configuration = $server.GetConfiguration()

$configuration.ProxyName = 'proxy.example'
$configuration.ProxyServerPort = 8080
$configuration.UseProxy = $true
$configuration.Save()

This uses the available UpdateServices PowerShell module. The proxy fields name the outgoing listener. For a Microsoft Update test that permits public HTTP proxies and has no proxy credentials configured, the HTTP proxy list supplies candidate hosts and ports. Any server name and administration port passed to Get-WsusServer select WSUS itself.

GetConfiguration returns a copy, so property assignments alone do not persist the change. Get that copy close to the edit and coordinate other administrators; saving an old copy can also write back its other old settings.

The example retains the existing proxy authentication arrangement. If it needs changing, set the WSUS credential fields through the administration API before saving.

A failed Save can reflect synchronization or another configuration save preventing it. Follow the exception rather than reassigning the same local fields. A successful save confirms persistence; the subsequent synchronization establishes whether the configured route and account work.
