GNOME's org.gnome.system.proxy ignore-hosts setting takes an array of strings. A shell's comma-separated no_proxy value is one string, so copying it unchanged gives GNOME the wrong data structure.

['localhost', '127.0.0.0/8', '::1', 'intranet.example']

This illustrates the settings value, not a complete shell command. Each entry remains one array element. Use the settings tool's documented variant syntax and shell quoting; concatenating arbitrary unescaped text adds a separate parsing problem.

Read the existing value before editing it and preserve intentional exceptions. Replacing the array with one new host can remove loopback or internal-service behavior.

Next check meaning. GNOME 48's schema documents hostname, domain wildcard, IP and subnet forms. The client consuming the original environment list may support a different subset. Converting commas to quoted elements alone cannot establish equivalent matching.

Finally, read back the typed value and inspect a destination in the intended application. Confirm its active mode: manual settings, PAC and no proxy are separate choices. Terminal tools may continue to use their own environment policy even when the desktop value is correct.
