Choose a Separate Incognito Proxy Scope in Chrome
Set incognito_persistent or incognito_session_only according to lifetime, with user-granted extension access and effective-policy inspection.
Incognito normally inherits the regular proxy policy. An authorized proxy extension can set a separate incognito scope:
chrome.proxy.settings.set({
value: {
mode: "fixed_servers",
rules: {
singleProxy: {
scheme: "http",
host: "proxy.example.net",
port: 8080
}
}
},
scope: "incognito_persistent"
}, () => {});For permitted public-site browsing, the HTTP proxy list supplies candidates for the fixed HTTP host and port. The extension needs proxy permission and the user's incognito-access approval. It cannot grant itself that access.
| Scope | Lifetime |
|---|---|
| incognito_persistent | Until cleared or the governing extension is disabled/removed |
| incognito_session_only | Until the last incognito window closes; can be set only with an incognito window open |
Inspect proxy.settings.get with incognito: true when policy or another extension may control the result. A requested override is not evidence it won precedence. When restoring inherited policy, clear the same incognito scope that the extension set.
