dotspacemacs/user-config runs at the end of initialization. Put proxy values needed by earlier package loading into the active dotfile's existing dotspacemacs/user-init hook instead:

(setq url-proxy-services
      '(("http" . "proxy.example:8080")
        ("https" . "proxy.example:8080")))

Merge the form with the hook's other initialization. The values are host:port pairs keyed by destination protocol. For public package sources, the HTTP proxy list provides candidates for this early HTTP setup. Keep the URL client's required authentication and bypass settings with this early setup.

If routing relies on environment variables, check the saved environment as a separate input. The default user-env loads ~/.spacemacs.env, which can contain old imported values.

  • SPC f e e opens the environment configuration.
  • SPC f e E reloads it.
  • SPC f e C-e reimports and overwrites the saved file, so review its values before relying on a new import.

An export in a new terminal does not by itself replace this file. External Git downloaders likewise use Git's own proxy inputs; the URL-library setting applies to the URL client.
