In Notepad++ installations with the bundled updater, open the ? → Set Updater Proxy… command and enter the proxy server and port. This launches the updater’s own proxy configuration dialog. If you are choosing an HTTP endpoint yourself, the HTTP proxy list provides addresses to consider; enter the selected host and port separately.

The command targets the updater belonging to that Notepad++ installation. If several installed or portable copies exist, configure the one whose downloads are failing.

The updater stores the values in updater\gupOptions.xml beside its executable. Its proxy configuration contains a server and port, for example:

<GUPOptions>
    <Proxy>
        <server>proxy.example</server>
        <port>8080</port>
    </Proxy>
</GUPOptions>

Prefer the dialog for normal changes. Notepad++ checks whether access to the updater directory requires elevation when launching this configuration command. An unwritable installation folder can prevent the saved change; it does not mean the editor must always run as administrator.

The bundled helper also supports gup -options when invoked from its own directory. Avoid a hard-coded Program Files path unless it matches the actual installation.

An older third-party Plugin Manager’s PluginManager.ini is another component’s configuration. It is not the current updater’s XML file. Confirm whether the failing operation belongs to the updater, built-in Plugins Admin or a plugin’s own downloader before editing an unrelated file.
