Keep Home and Office Proxies in Separate Mac Locations
Save separate macOS network locations for different proxy environments, then switch them from the Apple menu without retyping the settings.
macOS network locations let you save Home and Work Proxy setups instead of retyping an endpoint. Selecting a location is manual; its name is not an automatic Wi-Fi rule.
- Preserve and add. On an updated Ventura-or-later system, open Apple menu → System Settings → Network. In the More menu below the services, choose Locations → Edit Locations. Identify the setup to keep and give it a useful name. Add a new location with the plus button, name it Work Proxy and click Done. If Locations is missing, Apple's instructions advise installing available macOS updates.
- Configure Work Proxy. With it selected, open the relevant service's Details → Proxies. Choose the network's method: automatic PAC, Web Proxy, Secure Web Proxy or SOCKS. Manual server and port are separate fields. Add required credentials and preserve bypass hosts. Check Ethernet as well as Wi-Fi when either can carry the office connection. Exit Network settings or quit System Settings to save and complete the switch.
- Select the environment. With multiple locations, Apple menu gains Location; choose Home or Work Proxy there, or in Network settings. Make a fresh request in the intended application after switching.
The earlier location retains its settings while you edit the new one. Keep each coherent: locations can also change other network settings and service order. An application with its own proxy policy may still need a separate adjustment.
On older macOS, use System Preferences → Network → Location → Edit Locations, then click Apply after editing.
