Use strict_chain when every listed hop must participate in order. If the final proxy supplies a required exit or network location, allowing it to be skipped defeats that requirement even when the request succeeds.

proxychains-ng's dynamic_chain keeps the order of usable proxies while skipping unavailable entries. That trades a fixed route for availability. It is appropriate only when the skipped hops are optional for the task.

Skipping an unavailable proxy does not mean the documented dynamic mode simply sends the request directly; it still requires a usable proxy path. Separately, unsupported application operations can escape the wrapper's interception. Neither chain mode is a machine-wide enforcement mechanism.

Enable one selected chain mode rather than several competing options. Confirm which configuration the command actually loaded before judging that choice. chain_len applies to the sample configuration's documented random or round-robin modes; it is not a general length limit for strict and dynamic chains.

Choose the policy by the failure you can accept: fail the request if a mandatory hop is down, or accept an ordered route through the remaining usable proxies. A successful request is sufficient evidence only when that resulting route meets the requirement.
