vagrant-proxyconf writes settings into the guest. Removing its host-side plugin does not reverse changes already stored in that VM's environment and application configuration.

For a compatible installation where the plugin is still available, its documented clearing configuration is:

Vagrant.configure("2") do |config|
  config.proxy.enabled = false
end

Apply the guest configuration through Vagrant's normal startup/provisioning lifecycle before uninstalling the plugin. The plugin documents that false disables proxy configuration and removes settings.

The other values mean different things. An empty or false proxy setting removes the applicable setting. A nil value leaves the guest's existing value untouched. Deleting a Vagrantfile line and thereby returning to nil is therefore not the same cleanup operation.

Inspect VAGRANT_HTTP_PROXY and the related host inputs too; the plugin documents environment inputs that can override file values.

If the plugin has already been removed, identify the guest files it changed and restore their intended values through the project's configuration process. Supported targets include environment and package-manager or application settings, not just one terminal export.

The existing VM need not be destroyed merely to remove proxy configuration. Keep its data and restore the relevant settings deliberately.
