Recognize Navigation Clues in Forward-Proxy Logs
Interpret Fetch Metadata headers where visible without claiming to know whether a person typed the URL.
Sec-Fetch-Mode: navigate
Sec-Fetch-Dest: document
Sec-Fetch-User: ?1
Where visible, these Fetch Metadata fields suggest a document navigation associated with user activation: navigate is the mode, document the destination type and Sec-Fetch-User: ?1 the activation signal.
They do not identify an address-bar keystroke. A link click can produce related metadata, and missing Referer also depends on referrer policy and request context.
Check visibility first. An ordinary CONNECT relay sees the target host/port and encrypted traffic, not the inner website headers. For visible HTTP requests, retain an unknown category when fields are absent or unsupported.
These values are contextual evidence, not authentication. A general non-browser client can construct the same strings. If a controlled application needs precise UI-action attribution, emit a defined application event with request correlation; proxy URL logs cannot reconstruct every input action.
