There is no universal login for free proxies. “Free” describes an offer, not an authentication method: an endpoint can allow unauthenticated access, require an account or restrict access through another policy.

If the operator describes unauthenticated use and supplies only IP, port and protocol, leave the application's credential fields blank. Their presence does not make them mandatory. Do not fill them with a website login or computer account.

If an HTTP proxy returns 407, it is asking for proxy authentication. Use the operator-supplied account with a supported method; this is separate from website authentication. SOCKS5 negotiates methods too and can permit no-authentication or require a supported login. Its protocol label alone cannot answer the question.

A public list may have omitted the original access instructions or retained an entry after its access arrangement changed. Check the operator's instructions if available. If no authorized account or access arrangement exists, choose another suitable endpoint from the free proxy list rather than guess default passwords.

A password identifies access, not privacy or exclusivity. Authenticated users may still share an exit, and the login does not establish an encrypted client-to-proxy link or trustworthy operator.
