Set the Proxy on Tweepy’s v1.1 API Class
Configure the HTTP route directly on Tweepy’s documented API class instead of replacing Python’s global urllib opener.
For an application using Tweepy 4.14's API class, give the proxy to that client:
api = tweepy.API(
auth,
proxy="http://proxy.example:8080",
timeout=20,
)
The snippet assumes Tweepy is loaded and auth is the application's existing authentication handler. Proxy routing does not replace the provider account or its API permissions. Where public intermediaries are permitted, the HTTP proxy list offers candidates for this no-proxy-account HTTP route.
The documented API class is Tweepy's v1.1 interface. Its proxy argument supplies the HTTP intermediary used for requests. A historical recipe replacing urllib's global opener does not configure a modern client whose actual transport is a Requests session.
Keep the configured instance where the operations are made. Creating this object and then calling another API instance elsewhere leaves the intended route on the unused object.
Tweepy's v2 Client is a separate class with a different constructor. Match proxy integration to that interface rather than assuming every Tweepy object accepts the API class's arguments. The explicit argument above is useful for maintaining the corresponding client generation without changing proxy behavior for unrelated Python libraries.
