When IntelliJ works through a corporate PAC URL but Toolbox fails, compare the two applications’ selected proxy modes. Toolbox has its own choice of system policy, automatic configuration and manual endpoint.

On Linux, system mode depends on the desktop session that launched Toolbox. Confirm that session has the intended automatic configuration.

A PAC URL points to a route-selection script. For manual mode, obtain the actual forwarding proxy’s host, port and authentication requirements from the network administrator.

JetBrains has documented a Linux case in which automatic configuration worked in IntelliJ while Toolbox reported proxy authentication failures. Manual proxy configuration was the suggested workaround. Use it as a targeted fallback for that symptom, with the approved endpoint and account.

For a continuing PAC or authentication failure, keep Toolbox’s version, selected mode and the relevant redacted log error together. Those details make the difference between the two clients inspectable.
